For most people, house cleaning is an absolute nightmare. It involves a series of time-consuming and tedious tasks that often have to be done at the weekend when we would prefer to be doing something else. But unless you are fortunate enough to afford a housekeeper, you will have to clean your house yourself every Week!
The good news is that if you do things right, house cleaning won’t be as overwhelming as you may think. In this article, we will give you a few tips on how to clean your bedroom.
It is important to know exactly what to do in each room of your house during your cleaning routine in order not to waste your precious time and energy. And the bedroom is probably one of the easiest areas to clean and, most importantly, to keep clean throughout the week.
Here’s how to clean your bedroom fast and easily.
1. Get In The Mood
The mindset with which you start your cleaning routine is very important and probably the most crucial “cleaning hack” there is. This doesn’t necessarily have to be a painful task. You can have fun! Before grabbing your cleaning products, put on some music, play an episode of your favorite podcast, or listen to an audiobook.
There are several great playlists to listen to while cleaning the house. Upbeat music will keep your energy and spirits up. Maybe you will end up dancing a little bit with the vacuum cleaner, who knows.
2. Clear All The Surfaces
Clearing all the surfaces in your bedroom is the first thing to do. If you are someone reasonably well-organized and tidy, this task should not take more than a minute. To declutter your bedroom, you need to put your clean clothes back in the wardrobe (make sure you fold them properly) and your dirty clothes in the washing machine.
Collect all the visible litter such as paper tissues, payment receipts, food packages, or plastic bottles, and put it in the trash can. Once you have finished this task, your bedroom will already look much cleaner, and every other subsequent task will be much easier to perform.
Additional Tip: to prevent your bedroom from becoming disorganized, you should try not to leave your clothes spread all over the room throughout the week. Seriously. It’s not that hard. Always put your dirty clothes in the laundry basket as soon as you take them off. This will prevent them from accumulating in every corner.
3. Make The Bed
Generally, the bed occupies a considerable part of the bedroom space (except if you are substantially wealthy, but in that case, you probably can hire someone to clean up your bedroom for you). Therefore, a made bed will make the bedroom look friendly and more inviting just by itself.
Besides, it is extremely easy to do and not that time-consuming. Unless you have to change the bedsheets. If you do, it will probably take a couple more minutes than expected, so ask someone to help you out to make it faster. Additional Tip: if you hate making your bed every morning, you should use as few sheets as possible.
You can even comfortably sleep with just one high-quality duvet during the winter. This way, when you get up in the morning, all you have to do is pull the duvet up, spread it nicely, and give the pillows a little shake to make them look acceptable and tidy. Try it! It will save you a lot of time.
Dusting is as easier as it gets. All you need is a microfiber cloth and a little patience. Oh, and remember that you should always do it from top to bottom. Always. No exceptions. You don’t want the dust from a top-shelf to fall off into a dresser that you have already cleaned.
Unlike what most people think, you don’t need any specific household cleaning solution to clean your room. Dusting is enough, but if you have extra time and you want to give your furniture a shiny look, use a water-dampened soft cloth to wipe the furniture after you finish dusting.
Warning: keep in mind that this specific cleaning routine won’t eliminate the vast majority of germs and other microscopic types of dirt. To sanitize your bedroom, you would need disinfecting products and time. You can’t do it properly in under 15 minutes. It’s impossible.
5. Vacuum Cleaning
The most important tip for cleaning your bedroom properly is leaving the vacuuming part for last. It will probably also be the thing that takes longer. You shouldn’t try to rush this part because you need to remove all the dust that you have cleaned and that has settled on the floor. Oh, and don’t be afraid to get on your knees to vacuum under the bed.
A lot of people neglect this area, which causes an enormous amount of dust to accumulate. If you have a carpet in your bedroom, make sure you vacuum it both horizontally and vertically. That’s a must-do to ensure that you suck up all the grime stuck in the carpet fibers. Also, you need to wash it every once in a while! It is perfectly possible to do all these things in under 15 minutes.
You can even do it in under 10 minutes with a little practice. Bear in mind that despite being a very simple cleaning routine, it is more than enough to keep your bedroom orderly and neat. Nevertheless, every once in a while, you will have to do a deeper cleaning.
If you do these aforementioned steps on a weekly basis, the deep cleaning routines will be a lot faster, that’s for sure. Your home should be a welcoming place where you can relax at the end of a long day’s work. Keep it tidy! After all, it is incredibly satisfying to live in a comfortable and clean place.
